A PRACTICAL BUYING GUIDE

A collection brief.
Ready to discuss.

Choose resin / polyresin for sculpted landmark artwork with painted or UV-printed colour, or compare metal when relief and a metallic finish define the design. Compare flatter printed constructions when sculpted relief is not the priority. Then specify each design, quantity, sample checkpoints and packaging. Confirm material-specific MOQ and timing in the quotation; there is no single ordering specification for every souvenir magnet.

START WITH THE ARTWORK

One destination.
Different constructions.

This is a selection framework, not a price or performance ranking. Review the actual construction and sample for the selected design.

Material selection and sample checkpoints
MaterialConsider forReview before choosing
Resin & PolyresinLandmark relief, architectural shapes and painted or UV-printed destination collections.Resin can also use UV-printed colour. Compare flatter printed constructions when relief is not the priority; confirm the colouring process for the actual artwork. Review thin projections and packing protection rather than judging durability from the material name alone.
MetalRelief-led landmarks, destination lettering and designs built around metallic finishes.Compare resin with painted or printed colour when sculpted detail and volume are the main priority; compare printed options for image-led artwork. Confirm finish and weight against the intended retail presentation.
AcrylicColourful graphic artwork, cut outlines and clear-edge destination references.Compare relief-led materials for sculpted depth. Review surface marking, print protection and the appearance of the edges in a sample.
Aluminum FoilPrinted destination scenes and collections where a textured or metallic surface effect is important.Compare a flat printed sample and a relief-led sample against your artwork. Confirm how the surface is protected and how the assembled edges are finished.
CeramicTile-inspired art, patterned destination collections and decorative keepsakes.Compare printed lightweight constructions where weight or packing space is a priority. Review chips, surface finish and protection through the proposed delivery route.
GlassImage-led city references and glossy destination collections.Compare acrylic or other printed constructions when weight or edge protection changes the brief. Check the actual image under the chosen glass profile.
Soft PVCBold landmark outlines, layered colour and graphic destination lettering.Compare printed constructions when the artwork relies on photographic gradients or very small text. Confirm the formulation and any market-specific requirements rather than assuming a material name proves compliance.
TinplatePrinted city graphics and coordinated destination series.Compare sculpted materials when relief is central to the design. Inspect edges, print finish and assembly rather than selecting by the metal face alone.
WoodCut destination outlines, natural-looking surfaces and layered graphic collections.Confirm whether the design uses solid wood, plywood, MDF or another substrate. Review surface variation and finish; request supporting evidence for any sustainability or moisture-resistance requirement.
PlasticShaped city references and designs requiring a particular moulded or assembled structure.Compare the physical sample with the artwork. Confirm the polymer, decoration, assembly and any relevant market requirements for the intended use.

A COMMON COLLECTION DECISION

Resin or metal
for landmark magnets?

Choose by artwork, surface character and the finished sample. Neither material is automatically cheaper, stronger or more suitable for every collection.

TWO STARTING POINTS

Existing reference.
Or a new design.

Neither route is a promise of ready stock, a fixed minimum quantity or a fixed lead time.

Start with an existing reference

Identify the photograph and individual shape. Confirm current availability, dimensions, finish, permitted artwork use and quantities for each design. Ask whether changes require new development.

MAKE QUOTATIONS COMPARABLE

A brief for
each design.

  1. Identity: destination, reference number or artwork version, and the rights to use it.
  2. Construction: material, approximate dimensions, relief or printing, finish and backing.
  3. Order: design count and quantity per design, including any intended repeat orders.
  4. Retail: packaging, backing cards, branding, barcode data and labels.
  5. Quality: intended mounting surface, appearance checks and agreed inspection criteria.
  6. Delivery: country, delivery location, shipping preference and required arrival date.

Ask the quotation to identify tooling, samples, production, packaging and delivery separately where applicable. State undecided points rather than guessing a specification.

REVIEW THE FINISHED ASSEMBLY

What does each
approval stage confirm?

Digital artwork, a physical sample and production inspection answer different questions. Approve the selected product and packaging against a written specification, then agree the checks for the production order.

Keep a written approval record

Record the design ID and artwork version, dimensions, material and finish, backing, colour reference, approved sample date, packaging and inspection points. Identify any open changes and who must approve them.

For a resin project, also review relief depth, small lettering, thin projections and painted or printed colour boundaries. Review the resin development brief ↗

COMPLETE THE PURCHASING BRIEF

Agree freight.
Record the order terms.

Production time is separate from transport. Provide the delivery country, city, postal code and required arrival date before comparing shipping quotations.

Freight quotation

Ask for the shipping method, dispatch point, carton count, gross weight and carton dimensions. Confirm which delivery charges and destination responsibilities the quotation includes.

Review protection for the selected product and route; an attractive display pack may need additional transit protection.

Payment arrangements

Record the currency, development and sample charges, production payment schedule and the events linked to each payment in the accepted quotation.

Confirm how artwork changes, sample revisions or order changes affect the agreed charges.

Inspection & discrepancies

Agree the approved sample, inspection points, sampling approach, reporting period and evidence to keep if a discrepancy is found.

Identify the design, affected quantity, photographs and packing details when reporting an issue. Agree the resolution process for the order.

These are purchasing checkpoints. Specific payment, inspection, shipping and resolution terms are confirmed for the selected order.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Details that shape
the order.

Project-specific quantities, charges and dates need a confirmed quotation. These answers explain what to clarify before approval.

How is the minimum order quantity calculated?

Use the material-specific MOQ references in the ordering table as the starting point, then request a quantity review for each design and construction. State whether you want an existing reference or a new design, and list quantities separately. A collection total does not automatically meet the requirement for each design; the quotation needs to identify any tooling and setup conditions.

What affects the price of a custom souvenir magnet?

The selected material, dimensions, construction, artwork detail, finish, quantity per design, development work and packaging all help define a quotation. Ask for tooling, samples, production, packaging and delivery charges to be identified so quotations can be compared on the same basis.

What should be agreed before a sample is made?

Agree the artwork version, dimensions, material, finish, magnetic backing, packaging brief, sample charges and revision arrangements. Identify which decisions the sample is intended to validate. Keep the approved sample and written specification aligned before production is confirmed.

How should we plan production and delivery timing?

Share the required arrival date and delivery country at the start. Request separate confirmation of artwork or tooling work, sample review, production after approval and transport. Revisions and destination requirements can change the plan; use the material-specific reference times above as a starting point rather than a guaranteed arrival date.

Can backing cards, barcodes and branded packaging be discussed?

Include the proposed card or box, artwork, barcode data, label position and packing quantities in the brief. Review the packaged sample for protection and retail presentation. Packaging availability, costs and setup requirements must be included in the agreed quotation.

How do we assess magnetic attachment and product quality?

Identify the intended mounting surface and review the assembled sample. Record checks for finish, vulnerable parts, edges and magnet attachment, as well as the inspection method and acceptance criteria. Appearance alone does not establish magnetic holding performance or product safety.

What should we confirm for sales in the US or Europe?

Tell us the sales country, intended user and how the product will be marketed. Confirm which requirements and documents apply to the actual construction before ordering. A decorative souvenir is not automatically a toy, and a material name or unrelated test report does not prove the finished product meets your requirements.

What information is needed to quote shipping?

Provide the delivery country, city and postal code, required arrival date and preferred shipping method if known. Request the carton count, gross weight and carton dimensions for the selected packing. Confirm the included charges and destination responsibilities on the same basis when comparing freight quotations.

How are sample and production payment terms agreed?

Ask the quotation to record the currency, development and sample charges, production payment schedule and the events linked to each payment. Confirm how revisions and order changes affect charges. Payment arrangements are agreed for the selected order.

What should be agreed if a production discrepancy is found?

Before ordering, agree the approved sample, inspection points, sampling approach, reporting period and resolution process. Keep design IDs, affected quantities, photographs and packing details when reporting a discrepancy. The accepted order terms should identify how the issue is reviewed and resolved.

Can we reorder or request exclusive artwork?

State any repeat-order, artwork, tooling-storage or exclusivity requirements before development. Record agreed ownership, permitted use, design version and any conditions in writing. Do not assume that choosing an existing reference grants exclusive use.
